Ragged Mountain Dogs is proud to announce that we are hosting several dogs rescued from the devastation of Hurricane Katrina. Pictured at left are Angel and Minnie, the first to arrive. Most of the dogs are being sponsored by the SPCA of Northern Virginia. UPDATE 10/17: Ragged Mountain Dogs now has our own Katrina dog, Matty, following a trip to the gulf coast region by Lisa Reid and RMD volunteer Barbara Deathe. Click here to see photos and read Barb's account of their trip. UPDATE 10/27: Thank you to Junior Girl Scout Troop #612 of Luray and Vanessa Brown. This group of enthusiastic young people raised $100 toward the medical treatment of our Katrina dogs and collected many blankets and toys, too.

At the request of the SPCA NoVA, Ragged Mountain Dogs has assumed the financial burden of caring for these dogs until their family can once again provide for them. UPDATE 1/5/06: Angel and Minnie's family have rebuilt their kennels, and were anxious for the dogs' return. Earlier this week, Lisa drove to Pearlington to return them to their grateful people. Lisa's account of the trip will be posted soon. And the financial burden of caring for Faith, the dog pictured above with the Girl Scouts, has been turned over to Ragged Mountain Dogs. Faith will be listed for adoption when she is ready to go to a home. If you would like to help defray the cost of caring for Faith and Matty, our other Katrina dog, until they find permanent homes, please send a check to:
