Many people who visit our website would love to provide a home for one of our dogs, but aren't able to adopt.
Ragged Mountain Dogs has created a program called K9 Angels, that helps provide for our dogs until they can be placed in loving homes.
For $10 a month, you can become a K9 Angel to the dog of your choice until it is happily placed. Your $10 helps defray the cost of feeding, training, and veterinary care for your chosen dog. Commit for a minimum of 3 months and in return you will receive pictures, updates, copies of write-ups, plus best of all K9 gratitude and the knowledge that you have made a difference.

PLEASE NOTE: Because we do pre-placement home visits, we have a limited adoption area, generally Northern Virginia. If you are interested in one of our dogs, though, please email or call to see if a volunteer is available to do a home visit in your area.
Nicky: Beagle mix -male neutered - 11 months old - 35 pounds -medium energy level
Nicky was rescued from a rural VA shelter where he was brought in as a stray . He is a wonderful companion although it is obvious he did not get many new experiences in his young life. When he is out and about in the world he is fearful of many everyday things. We are working on this and he is making wonderful progress. He is crate trained and gets along well with people and other dogs. He does not like to be outside in the fenced play areas if his "person" is not there. He will climb fences to get back to you. He will need patience and someone who is willing to give him the life experiences he has not had until now.
Vinnie: Airdale mix - male neutered - 11 months old - 48 pounds - medium energy level
Vinnie was adopted from the shelter as a young puupy and given the name Lucky - which it turned out he was not! He was returned to the shelter 9 months later as his "people" did not have the time for him and claimed him to be too rambunctious. He is the perfect example of folks who get a puppy and then do not invest the time or energy required to make that puppy a wonderful companion in our human world. Vinnie was never given boundaries, or any basic obedience - both of which he is getting now. He is very smart and learns quickly. He is crate trained and gets along well with people and other dogs. He would make a wonderful companion for a family.
